对潘恩著作的引文（references）均指菲利普·S. 方纳编辑的两卷本《托马斯·潘恩的生平与主要著作》（Life and Major Writings of Thomas Paine）（Citadel，Secaucus, N.J.，1948）。对第一卷中作品的引文以前缀 I 表示；对第二卷的引文以前缀 II 表示。
